Q: Can you explain what is a red eye in Islam, and what is the evil eye?
A: The red eye refers to when a person gets angry and they have redness in their eye, the darkness from their heart manifests as redness in the eye. This doesn’t refer to a person who gets up in the morning and has swollen, red eyes.
The evil eye is a poison that exists within the eye, and it can bounce out onto anyone and anything and bring it to destruction. Sometimes we don’t intentionally send out an evil eye, but the evil eye can be so powerful that it can cause a camel to die. This is why we have been advised to say “Bismillahi MashaAllah” when we something or someone beautiful. To protect yourself from evil eye and to protect ourselves from being struck by the evil eye, we can read the Mu’awwidhatain and the last two verses of Surah al-Qalam.
