Q: How do we achieve closeness with Allah when we are busy with our work and feel tired from our work to get close to Allah?
A: Being busy with work does not stop and prevent a person from drawing close to Allah (swt). The Sahabah (ra) were extremely, some of them were extremely rich. Some of them were milionaires. Sayyidina Uthman, Sayyidina Abdul Rahman ibn Auf, Sayyidina Abu Bakar were all very, very wealthy people. They played the dunia on their fingertips and didn’t allow for it to enter into their hearts.
You are allowed to work in the world and earn and have a good earning, but to keep all of that in your hand and keep Allah in your heart. And Allah (swt) such people in the Quran and He said, “
رجال لا تلهيهم تجارة ولا بيع عن ذكر الله و إقام الصلاة وإيتاء الزكاة يخافون يوما تتقلب فبه القلوب والأبصار””
Allah said, a men, a people, “لا تلهيهم تجارة ولا بيع عن ذكر الله” that their buying and selling and transactions and businesses do not distract them from the remembrance of Allah. What does this verse mean?
The scholars have said that this verse means that these people whom Allah is speaking about actually engage in business and transactions, in buying and selling, but none of this distracts them from the remembrance of Allah. They have remembrance of Allah in their hearts, and at the same time they are engaging with the world with their body and with their physical and attaining their wealth to earn their halal livelihood, but their hearts are connected onto Allah (swt).
