Q: What is the ideal age to get married?
A: (Dr Omar Mahmood) I’m not a big proponent of early marriage. People need to mature and figure out who they are and become a little bit more stable in their outlook in life.
If you’re in your mid 20s and early 30s, it’s fine, you don’t need to worry about marriage. Even if you’re older than that and aren’t married, there’s no rush. There are exceptions to that: if Allah grants tawfeeq, it can happen.
But neurologically, it’s very interesting to note that the brain doesn’t really fully develop until you reach 25 years of age. Even if you look at the Prophetic age of marriage, the Prophet salAllahualayhiwassalam got married at 25 years old.
So I don’t think there’s a fear that you should be having at this moment. As long as you’ve connected yourself with the community and you’re not self-isolating too much, you’re going to find someone.
A: (Dr Sawssan Ahmed) It’s important to think about what your plans are in life. You should think about whether you’re more interested in your career at this point or otherwise.
