On the Chapter: ‘The Friday Prayer and Congregational Prayers’ Imam ‘Abdullah bin ‘Alawi al-Haddad in his Risāla ‘Ādāb Sulūk al-Murīd said:
O Seeker, be very wary and mindful of leaving Friday prayers and not praying the other Fardu Salāt in Jema’ah. For indeed, such is the behaviour of the people of falsehood and the feature of the elite of the ignorance.
al-Ustād Amin began by saying that this excludes those with valid reasons (for missing the Friday and jemaah prayers), among them: attending to a funeral service, taking care of the sick and also being extremely sick oneself, meeting with an accident or witnessing an accident in which it is incumbent upon him to render help, war and flood.
He said that Juma’ah is the Master of Days and its time is upon the reaching of true dawn [Fajr]. Among other significant incidents that shall occur on a Friday is Doomsday and it will happen on a 15th of Ramadān, although the exact time is only known to Allah.
Several blessed marriages took place on Friday:
– between Nabi Ādam and Siti Hawā
– between Nabi Yusuf and Siti Zulaikha
– between Nabi Musa and Safrawah
– between Nabi Sulaymān and Balkhis
– between Sidna ‘Ali and Fatima al-Zahra binte al-Batūl
– between Sayydina al-Rasul and Ummuna Khadijah al-Kubrah
al-Ustād taught us that the recitation of Surah al-Khafi carries more rewards when read in the daytime then in the night time of Friday. Other Surahs that are recommended to be read in descending preference are:
– Surah al-Sajadah and al-Insan during Fajr Salāt
– Surah Juma’ah and Surah al-Munāfikun
– Surah Yāsin
We should increase the number of Istigfār and Salat ‘ala al-Nabi on Friday. Donations made on a Friday also carry 700 times more reward. Other Sunnah to be done after Fajr to get the rewards of doing Sunnah on Juma’ah are:
– The Sunnah Bath
– Cutting of Nails
– Cutting of hair
al-Ustād Amin also reminded us that there is a moment on Friday when one’s Du’a will be answered, and he said Scholars differ on the timings. Some say that it happens right after Fajr, others say that it is when the Khātib ascends the Minbar, still others say that it is when the Khātib sits in between the two Sermons, and others have said that it is after the Salāt Juma’ah. The opinion of Sayyidatina Fatima is that it occurs in the last hour on Friday before Maghrib of Saturday sets in.
Ramadan is a month like no other. The deeds, experiences, spiritual states and openings we are blessed with in this holy month through the mercy of Allah, bring with them a sense of focused tranquility that is often unmatched at any other time of the year. In essence, Ramadan is a school of positive transformation that is founded upon rigorous physical, mental and emotional discipline.
The doors to intimacy with Allah are flung wide open throughout Ramadan, but no aspirant hoping to pass through will succeed without taqwa: to guard the mind, heart, and soul. To this end, Ustaz Amin Yusuf will expound on and discuss practical strategies to maximize Ramadan through guarding and purifying ourselves from the 7 sins: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, anger, envy and pride.
